About Me

If you have stumbled across the blog, you may be wondering who the person writing the posts is. Well, my name is Jordan Halkyard and I am currently an Education student at the University of Regina, majoring in English and minoring in Social Studies.

Prior to entering the Faculty of Education, I was a student at the U of R’s well regarded School of Journalism. My time in journalism school gave me a lot of experiences I will remember for the rest of my life, like being able to have a small segment on a radio program and helping to produce a current affairs program about newcomers to Canada. It was also during this time that I had the opportunity to intern at the Weyburn Review newspaper in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. As an intern at the Review I had to spend a lot of time with children and at schools to get interviews for stories, and to take pictures for the paper. Being around these children and seeing the relationships between teachers and students inspired me to try and become an educator myself. So, when I entered my final semester of journalism school I applied to become an after-degree in the Faculty of Education. A few months later, I received the wonderful news I had been accepted to the Faculty. Since then, there had been a lot of work, but I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Through this blog, I hope to explore who I am as a teacher. What will I be like in the classroom? What do I really believe about how education should look? In the coming months I hope I can answer these questions and many more.
